Our shoots are fun, relaxed, and generally take one to two hours. During that time, our goal is to help you be in your element so that you can be yourselves. After all, you’re what we’re trying to capture!

Photojournalism, RLP Style - We help set up the scene, get you interacting and enjoying each other, and then see what happens. We’ve chased toddlers around parks and spurred on tickling fights enough to know that when you’re not looking at the camera the shots will capture YOU much more effectively. Most shoots are “on-location,” rather than in a studio, to achieve a more natural feel and photojournalistic style. If you’re interested in high-contrast shots, especially for newborn and maternity photography, we do have access to a studio, though.

Location - We suggest choosing a site where your family can be comfortable. Both indoor and outdoor locations can work well for this: beautiful gardens, your favorite park, or even a child’s bedroom. We regularly travel throughout the Portland Metro area, but we can travel farther as well. If you’re having trouble thinking of a location, please see our list of recommended locations.

Dress - We’re happy to accommodate any clothing changes. Children often find themselves in unpredictable situations, so we suggest bringing a back-up outfit. The most important thing is your comfort. You’ll be most at ease if you’re in something that suits you.

Coverage Times Two - We’ll try to be there for every moment, and with two of us, the odds are pretty good that we’ll not only capture it once, but twice. That’s not to say that our images are simply carbon copies of each other. We’re always striving for different angles and different ways to tell a story. With two lenses, we can add more richness and depth to the narrative. It also means that we’ll never have to ask you to re-light your child’s birthday candles.

Right place, right time… and attention to detail - Great photos come not only through fancy footwork at the shoot—we also retouch each shot individually to make sure that they’re all perfect. We typically take a couple of weeks to have your photos ready, but we often start working on them the night of the shoot and may send you a preview. When we’re sure that you’ll love them, we’ll set up a viewing session. You’ll get to see all of your proofs, as well as an idea of things that we can create with them. We’ll send you home with a CD of the proofs so that you will have access to them whenever you need to order additional products.
