We’ve been longtime lovers of Yelp. Their tagline “Real People. Real Reviews” to me says it all: it’s a great place to go to get the true story about a business. Sometimes the recommendations are glowing and you’re so glad that it’s a place you know you’ll love. Sometimes, you’re glad that you checked so that you can steer clear of something that really was way too good to be true. With all of the Yelp love that goes around, we were stoked with Don, Portland’s Yelp rep, called and asked us to come down to the Ballroom Bash and bring along the Mini Studio™. The Mini Studio™ pics are fabulous, which you can see in the post below, but we also had a great time mingling with the other Yelpers, dishing on our favorite joints, and capturing the revelry. And the other vendors– Pine State Biscuits, Hot Lips Pizza, and Cupcake Jones to name a few– were amazing as well. Too bad their food flew too fast to get images of! There’s also one face distinctly missing, and that’s of Don, because the guy was simply too hard to keep in one spot!

We’re psyched about this event– some of our favorite vendors will be participating (including our favorite cupcakerie, Cupcake Jones) and we’ll have The Mini Studio™ photobooth there in full party force for some crazy mementos of the night. Don of Yelp! puts on some of the most amazing parties we know so this is not to be missed. The one catch (and this is SUPER IMPORTANT) is that you have to be a member of Yelp! So mozie in a rather quick way over, create a profile, and then get yourself on the guest list. And while you’re at it, give some of your favorite businesses (including, of course, yours truly) some Yelp review love. It’s one of the best ways we know of to get the real skinny out about our favorite places to frequent. In fact, I have a review to write about a few places right now…

(A note from our sponsors: This is a private event open to Yelp.com members and their guests. RSVP and ID required for entry. To attend, RSVP to portland@yelp.com and include your name, a link to your Yelp profile, and the name of one guest.)

It may seem like an obvious love, given that our studio is immediately above Paper Zone on Grand, smack in the middle between them and Rejuvenation Hardware. But I loved them long before we ever opened our studio. I’ve always been a textiles fanatic, paper included, and have wandered and imagined and conspired in this store for at least ten years now. Then we opened our business and had an incredible need for creative, beautiful products to showcase our whimsical photography style and they were my natural destination. Their staff was so amazingly helpful that they literally helped me craft my first packaging and marketing lines! Needless to say the relationship has grown over the last several months but they’re still my go-to source because they’re the best, hands down.

I’ve recently discovered a few new product lines that I am absolutely thrilled to share with our clients, and just in time for the perfect Mother’s and Father’s day gifts:

This line of linen and silk covered folios and albums are have been hot sellers for everything from gifts for dad’s office to brag books for mom’s purse to guest books at weddings. They come in a fabulous array of mod and classic patterns. We’ll soon be introducing larger size albums with fine art prints or matted albums from the same company.

There’s this thing that I do when I get really excited about something: I wave my hands wildly back and forth because I just can’t contain my enthusiasm. I did that when I first saw this line. There are three sizes of photo boxes, and inside you’ll find rich matted prints from your session. They’re a perfect alternative to a standard album. They come in bright, fun colors: grass green (shown here), lemon yellow, chocolate brown, hot pink, vibrant red… I think you get the gist. I am absolutely over the moon about adding these to our product line because they complement our whimsical, expressive portraiture style perfectly.

I love featuring businesses that we’ve found and love, and today’s Hot Spot™ is one of my favorites because it’s a place that we go… well, as often as Sophie can convince me! Sit Still is a children’s salon in West Linn and while it’s a jaunt from our condo in Hillsdale, it is sooooo worth it. The stylists are trained to work with children and Sophie’s favorite, Kristin, could not be more wonderful. Case in point: they were brought in to do the hair at the recent Mom Shop fashion show and Sophie was a little skittish to be behind the curtain by herself. Then she saw Kristin and was thrilled! But back to the wonders of the shop. They have lines specifically designed for children’s hair (we’re fans of D’organiques Little Sprout line), an array of fun barrettes and other hair accoutrements, a candy bar, pedicures… pretty much everything that could set a kid’s heart jumping. Needless to say, I highly recommend them!

Yes, that’s my little cutie at her most recent cut.
