Going to The Hunt (Alpenrose 47th Annual Easter Egg Hunt)

One of the wonderful things about being a parent is seeing your child experience all of the things you remember, but in their own ways and with new wonder. Our little girl turned four this weekend and so her birthday festivities included a trip to The Hunt, the annual easter egg hunt at Alpenrose Dairy in SW Portland. Will grew up in the neighborhood and attended it yearly as a child and so taking Sophie had an even more sentimental meaning for him. She was thrilled, in her own right, and even more so when she realized that in addition to all of the chocolate eggs she’d collected, she also had some “taped” eggs, with prizes written on them.

The entire Alpenrose complex was a zoo, filled with families, and Will had a great time cheering the Pea on while also documenting the day. Below are some of his favorites:

It was a long wait through all of the crowds to the prizes but the anticipation was palpable…

We’re psyched about this event– some of our favorite vendors will be participating (including our favorite cupcakerie, Cupcake Jones) and we’ll have The Mini Studio™ photobooth there in full party force for some crazy mementos of the night. Don of Yelp! puts on some of the most amazing parties we know so this is not to be missed. The one catch (and this is SUPER IMPORTANT) is that you have to be a member of Yelp! So mozie in a rather quick way over, create a profile, and then get yourself on the guest list. And while you’re at it, give some of your favorite businesses (including, of course, yours truly) some Yelp review love. It’s one of the best ways we know of to get the real skinny out about our favorite places to frequent. In fact, I have a review to write about a few places right now…

The Mini Studio™ visits Gambol ’09

We love auctions. Really, we do. We love the energy of people getting excited about all of the fun things they can win (which of course includes photography by yours truly). But more than that, we love seeing people come together for a common cause. And last weekend, we witnessed one of the most compelling that we’ve had the chance to be a part of so far: the Gambol auction to benefit the scholarship fund at the Catlin Gabel school. ALL of the proceeds from this remarkable event– held in the Mark Building of the Portland Art Museum (and catered by Typhoon!. Yum!)– go to benefit their scholarship fund which gives the school the opportunity to bring in children from all around the community to participate in their educational community. We were superbly impressed, and pleased to be able to offer The Mini Studio™ to help raise funds as well.

Join us at the Mom Shop!

It’s almost time again for the Mom Shop! This annual event is sponsored by Mamapreneurs, Inc., a local collective of businesses that are at least 50% mom-owned. The last Mom Shop was so vibrant and inspiring that I couldn’t wait to be a part of it– so much so that I joined the planning committee! We’ve been planning for over a year now and are thrilled with the programming that we have on tap:

– a fabulous array of boutique and creative businesses including photographers, stationers, a chocolatier, lawyers, clothing designers, fitness coaches… the list goes on and on. See the list of all of our exhibitors here.

– The Mini Studio™ will be right by the registration table offering portraits to benefit Schoolhouse Supplies.

– a fashion show featuring brands like Pumpkin Noodle, Clementine NW, Haggis McBaggis, I Walk the Vine, and Munchkin Designs. Photography will be provided by RLP and posted in Puddletown Talent‘s galleries.

– children’s programming by The Play Boutique and Airplay Caffe.

– cooking demonstrations by Gaia Baby Food and Iorio Restaurant.

– a silent auction (this has been my pet project and I’m thrilled with the businesses that are participating). All proceeds will go to benefit Schoolhouse Supplies. Some of our packages include birthday parties by Sit Still Salon and My Masterpiece Art Studio, gift certificates from Andina, Castagna, and Hotel Lucia, and several fabulous packages as well.

Lindsey Pool and the Fossil Fools

Sometimes it’s nice to just be a person instead of THE photographer, and every once in a while we get a great chance to just take some images for the fun of it! We got a perfect chance when we attended the cd release of the Fossil Fools new cd back in December, right as the Arctic Blast of ’08 let up. We’ve been good friends with the band for years and it was also a lovely excuse to finally get out of the house. Their opener was the fabulous Portland band Lindsey Pool. We hadn’t been familiar with their music before the concert but we’re now loyal devotees. Here’s your close-up at last, guys!

Album Preview: Emma’s Bat Mitzvah

I love putting together albums for our clients. They’re such a fabulous way to showcase an event and create a keepsake that will last for generations. We photographed Emma’s bat mitzvah a few months ago at Havurah Shalom and then her fabulous party at the picturesque Tualatin Country Club. The entire family was a hoot to work with and I really think the exhuberance and joyful nature of the occasion comes through in her album. It will be a beautiful flushmount, which I will of course share pictures of when it comes in. I hope you love it, guys!
